Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy: Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question that is not answered here you are welcome to email me at support@sacralsol.com.
What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy? Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, or BCST, is a gentle form of bodywork using light, still hand holds. I adjust my contact in response to the subtle rhythms and cues offered by your body along with your verbal feedback. Each session is unique and is tailored to what you are experiencing when you arrive. Rather than forcing or pushing the body toward change, the biodynamic approach orients to the innate health, internal resources, and capacity for change present within each person.
How is BCST different from massage? BCST uses light, sustained handholds rather than massage strokes, kneading, stretching, or firm pressure. Clients remain fully clothed throughout the session, and oils or lotions are not used. BCST is non-manipulative. The intention is not to force movement or make structural adjustments, but to offer quiet contact and space for the body’s own internal resources and Inherent Healing Process (IHP) to unfold.
What happens during a session? Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a fully clothed modality, so comfortable, nonrestrictive clothing is encouraged. At the beginning of your session, you will have an opportunity to share the health goals, questions, or personal experiences that brought you to BCST. During the session, you'll lie on a massage table, with pillows and blankets placed to support your body and encourage deep relaxation. Once settled, I typically begin with a light handhold at the ankles. I will note your body's responses and adjust my contact to support the release of compensation patterns that arise. During the session, you may notice various sensations, such as tingling, twitching, warmth, floating, pulsations, muscle relaxation, tones in your ear, and surges of energy. You may also notice subtle shifts in your awareness and memories and images may surface. These experiences will come and go naturally. There’s no right or wrong way to feel. You are welcome to breathe, adjust the position of your head, shoulders, legs, or other areas of your body as needed, ask questions, share what you notice, or simply rest while the session unfolds. At the close of the session you will have the opportunity to reorient to the room, share your experience, and ask questions if you wish. If you prefer time to settle and leave quietly I am happy to step out of the room at your request.
What if I am sensitive to touch? Your comfort and sense of agency guide every session. I ask permission, check how the contact feels, and welcome requests to adjust my touch, change position, pause, or stop whenever you desire a break. You remain an active participant in your experience and are always welcome to communicate what feels most supportive.
Can BCST support me during trauma recovery or other challenging life experiences? Yes. BCST offers gentle, steady support during times that feel physically or emotionally demanding. Many clients choose to receive BCST during periods of increased stress, after surgery, or alongside talk therapy, physical therapy, and other forms of healthcare. Although BCST is incredibly gentle and noninvasive, sessions are not always deeply relaxing. At times, emotions, sensations, or nervous system activation may arise. This intensity can be part of a natural healing response, but discomfort is never something that should be pushed through. Open communication is encouraged throughout each session so we can honor your needs, adjust contact, pause, or end a session early when appropriate. Each session unfolds with respect for your body's timing, available resources, and capacity. The goal is health, not speed. Appropriate pacing is part of a healthy healing process and there is no need to force or move beyond what feels manageable. Healing and well-being can benefit from support on many levels. BCST can be a meaningful complement to medical care, mental health support, and other healing modalities. A well-rounded care team offers support for the different aspects of your wellness journey, and I would be honored for BCST to be part of your chosen support system.
How does BCST support nervous system regulation? BCST offers gentle, attentive touch and a supportive environment that allows the nervous system to move toward greater ease and balance. During a session you notice spontaneous sighs, followed by slower rhythmic breathing, audible gurgling in your belly, intestinal sounds, a softening of your voice or the desire to simply rest. These are all signals that the autonomic nervous system has shifted into a parasympathetic, or "rest and digest," response. Another important aspect of nervous system regulation is interoception, your ability to sense and recognize what is happening within, such as changes in breathing, tension, heartbeat, or comfort. BCST offers an opportunity to explore this internal awareness in a safe and held environment. Healthy interoception leads to a clearer and deeper connection with your body's own signals and needs. Nervous system regulation isn't about remaining calm all the time. It's about having the flexibility to move naturally between activation and rest as life requires. BCST honors this capacity by supporting the body's own timing, resources, and responses rather than trying to force a particular state or outcome.
Where is Sacral Sol BCST, and what do sessions cost? Sessions take place in my private, home-based office in west Chandler, near Kyrene Road and Chandler Boulevard. A 60 minute session is $100, and an 80-90 minute session is $150. The scheduled time includes a check-in at the beginning and a closing conversation. When booking, I encourage choosing a session length that leaves comfortable space for any questions, health history, or conversation you would like to include so the experience can feel spacious rather than rushed.
Do you offer packages? Yes. Each package is designed as a BCST deep dive for one person and is not transferable to family or friends. Before purchasing a package, please review Sacral Sol’s current availability to make sure all four sessions can comfortably fit within your schedule during the 30-day package period. After purchasing a package, booking all four sessions promptly helps reserve the dates and times that work best for you. If a package does not suit your needs, individual sessions are always available through the booking page.
What does the RCST® designation mean? RCST® stands for Registered Craniosacral Therapist. I am a Registered Craniosacral Therapist through BCTA/NA. This designation reflects specialized professional training in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. BCTA/NA-approved foundation training includes several years of classroom instruction, extensive hands-on practice, independent study, personal sessions, professional ethics, and demonstrated competency in the principles and practice of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. Because the term “craniosacral therapy” can be used by practitioners with very different educational backgrounds, the RCST® designation clarifies the depth and focus of a practitioner’s training. Some professionals are introduced to craniosacral techniques through brief continuing-education courses that complement an existing profession, such as massage therapy, physical therapy, or another form of bodywork. An RCST® has completed a comprehensive training specifically centered on Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. My RCST® designation reflects the comprehensive professional training in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy that forms my work at Sacral Sol BCST. This professional designation also allows me to obtain and maintain professional liability insurance through ABMP.
Do you bill insurance? Some HSA or FSA cards will cover sessions, but I do not bill or accept insurance. I can provide a receipt if you would like to ask your insurance provider whether reimbursement may be available. Because my RCST® credential does not designate me as a licensed healthcare provider, I do not diagnose or treat medical conditions, provide diagnostic codes, or issue superbills.
Do you offer BCST sessions to infants or minors? My practice primarily serves adults. However, I will consider working with the children of established adult clients after one or both parents have completed four BCST sessions. I find it helpful for parents to have a firsthand, embodied understanding of what takes place during a session before deciding whether BCST feels appropriate for their child. This personal experience can take some of the mystery out of the process, offer context for the question “What is happening?” and help a parent determine whether my practice feels like an appropriate fit for their family. A parent’s familiarity with the process can also create greater orientation and ease around the experience for both parent and child. BCST sessions for minors have their own rhythm and may not follow the same check-in, table time, and closing-conversation structure as an adult session. Instead, these sessions are paced in response to the child’s receptivity, comfort, and responsiveness in the moment. Appropriate pacing and respect are paramount throughout the experience. Please speak with me directly before scheduling a session for a minor.
How do I schedule and pay for a BCST session? Sessions can be scheduled through the online booking calendar, or you may text Evelyn at (480)688-4797 for assistance with booking. Payment can be made through Zelle, Venmo, Cash App, cash, or credit card. You may pay when you book or on the day of your session. Some clients prefer to complete payment when they arrive so there is nothing left to attend to after the session. Others prefer to make payment at the close of the session as a way of orienting back toward daily life. Either is welcome; choose whichever feels most supportive for you.
What is Sacral Sol BCST’s cancellation policy? Sacral Sol requires a minimum of 24 hour advanced notice to cancel a session. Cancellations or no-shows are charged the full session fee. To cancel or reschedule, please text (480)688-4797.
Do I need to talk about my experiences during or after a BCST session? You can share as much or as little as you wish and you are always welcome to ask questions, speak about what you notice, or simply rest quietly. There is nothing you need to perform, understand, or figure out for the session to be meaningful.
Is the goal of BCST to make me feel calm all the time? No. Your nervous system is designed to be responsive to life. There are times when activation, energy, focus, and action are appropriate, just as there are times for rest, restoration, and ease. BCST offers an opportunity to become familiar with sensations of activation, settling, and ease within your body in a safe environment. Becoming familiar with these different states and the movement between them can support greater nervous system flexibility and a wider range of healthy appropriate responses over time.
How many sessions should I book? A single BCST session may offer all the support you need, while some goals may benefit from a series of four to eight sessions. Weekly sessions are often recommended when working toward a particular goal, allowing each session to build naturally on the progress from the previous session. As needs change, sessions can be spaced farther apart or be scheduled whenever additional support feels helpful. Your preferences and goals will always guide the pacing.
